It has only been two months since Casey Anthony was acquitted of murdering her two-year-old daughter, Caylee. Now, her parents, George and Cindy, have opened up to talk show host, Dr. Phil McGraw, in their own defense.
On Monday’s episode of The Today Show, McGraw asked the Anthonys about their first message on MySpace saying, “My Caylee is missing.” That message was unveiled roughly twelve days before their granddaughter was actually reported as missing.
Cindy Anthony said, “Caylee was missing in my heart that day. She wasn’t missing physically. I thought I knew where she was at. I wanted Casey to know how much she was hurting me. And I thought she was purposely keeping Caylee away from me.”
McGraw also asked the Anthonys about the smell in the trunk of their daughter’s car and what they believe caused the odor. Mrs. Anthony replied, “Truthfully, to this day, I don’t know, to be honest.”
George Anthony added, “Do I want to believe Caylee was back there? I don’t want to believe it. I’m going by what the investigators have told me. All I know is that Caylee is not with us anymore. I know that. I know that.”
Cindy also defended her husband against the suggestion that he was aware of Caylee’s disappearance. She said, “George would have never put us through those six months of not knowing where Caylee was if he knew where Caylee was. I watched his heart break every single day. And I watched him as frantic as he was.”
The full interview is slated for Dr. Phil’s show and will air in two parts on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 and Wednesday, September 14, 2011.
